opening tip…
 Prince George's starts its stretch of four games in seven days when it travels to Northern Virginia on Monday night. The Owls will play three of the four games on the road in this span. The Nighthawks edged Prince George's last season in Largo.

last time out… Prince George's Community College dropped a contest to Howard Community College 103-94 on Wednesday. James Hagins the Owls with 23 points and 16 rebounds to match his career-high in points and establish a new personal best in caroms. The sophomore, who posted 23 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6, connected on 11 of 13 shots from the floor and 1 of 4 from the free throw line for his 23 points. Hagins notched his second career 20-point performance and his 10th career game in double figures in points. He also notched his second career game with over 15 rebounds and fifth career double-double. Kennith Ford also had 23 points for the Owls for his third career 20-point contest. Mykal Johnson registered 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for his third career double-double and his second straight game turning a trick after posting a triple-double against Garrett on Jan. 13. Gus Stone also recorded 20 points for his 12th game this season with 20 points or more and 19th of his career. The sophomore added six assists, five rebounds and two steals in the loss.

next time on the hardwood… Prince George's continues its four games in seven days when it travels to Frederick on Wednesday before hosting Baltimore City (Jan. 26) and wraps up the week at the College of Southern Maryland (Jan. 28).   

now that's a career day… Sophomore James Hagins matched his career high of 23 points against Howard on Jan. 17 after posting a collegiate-best 23 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6.  The sophomore also posted a career-high 16 caroms against the Dragons. Sophomore Mykal Johnson dished out a career-high 10 assists on his way to his first collegiate triple-double while sophomore Gus Stone hauled in 10 rebounds on his way to his first career double-double in the contest against Garrett on Jan. 13. Johnson grabbed a career-best 15 boards against Dragons. Stone also registered a career-best 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. Sophomore Paul Golder notched a Prince George's high of 22 points against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5. Golder registered a career-best 23 points twice last season at another junior college. Freshman Darren Rivers registered a career-best eight points and 13 rebounds against Potomac State on Dec. 2. Sophomore Kennith Ford notched a career-high 26 points against Cecil on Nov. 29. The sophomore also hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds to notch his first career double-double against Butler County on Nov. 17. Freshman Shiloh Beale notched a career-high 13 points against Patrick Henry on Nov. 4. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum (12 points) had a Prince George's highs against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15.

the point is double figures… Sophomore Mykal Johnson has posted double figures in 44 of his 49 career games including 18 games this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has posted 33 10+ games in his career including 18 of 20 tilts this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has 30 career double-figure point games including 14 this season while sophomore James Hagins has 11 double-figure games in his career including nine this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has three double-figure point performances this season. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two 10+ games in an Owl uniform and fellow sophomore Paul Golder has one.

20-20 vision…
 Sophomore Mykal Johnson has scored 20 points in a game 20 times and 30 points three in his career, including six this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has 19 20-point performances and reached 30 points in a game twice this season. Stone has scored at least 20 points in 13 games this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has three career 20-point games on his resume including one this season while sophomore James Hagins posted 20 points twice this season with a pair of 23-point outburst. Sophomore Paul Golder reached 20 points for the first time in his Owls career against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5.

on the boards…
 Sophomore James Hagins has grabbed double figures in rebounds 11 times in his career including nine times this season. Sophomore Mykal Johnson has hauled in 10+ rebounds four times this season and freshman Darren Rivers has posted 10 caroms in a game twice this season while sophomore Kennith Ford has one double-figure rebound contest this season.

the dish…
 Sophomore Mykal Johnson became the first Owl player to register 10 assists in a game since Alex Morales handed out 13 assists against Allegany (Md.) on Jan. 13, 2017 when Johnson recorded 10 dimes against Garrett on Jan. 13, 2018. Johnson has handed out five or more assists four times this season and five times in his career. Sophomore Gus Stone has five 5+ assist games, including tilts with seven, eight and nine assists this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has two six assists games this season and sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two games with at least five helpers on the year.

double trouble… Sophomore James Hagins has posted six double-doubles including turning the trick four times this season. The sophomore registered a double-double against Westmoreland last season before tallying 14 points and 10 boards against Thaddeus Stevens on Nov. 2 and had a career night with 23 points and 15 rebounds against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. He posted 11 points and 10 boards against Chesapeake on Dec. 14 and 14 points and 11 rebounds against Garrett on Jan. 13. Sophomore Kennith Ford recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds against Butler County on Nov. 17 and fellow sophomore Mykal Johnson tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds against Westmoreland County on Nov. 18 to notch the duo's first double-double of their careers. Johnson turned the trick again against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5 after finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Gus Stone joined the club with a 32-point, 10-rebound performance against Garrett on Jan. 13.

triple trouble… Sophomore Mykal Johnson recorded a triple-double against Garrett after registering 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on Jan. 13. The 10 assists were a career best while the sophomore had two previous double-doubles before his triple threat against the Lakers.

nice to see you again…
 Sophomore Gus Stone has returned to the Owls for the 2017-18 season after playing in 2016-17. Stone ranked second on the team in his freshman campaign with 14.8 points per game and posted 20 double-figure performances including 11 games with 20 points or more.

welcome to the perch… Along with welcoming back Gus Stone, head coach Brian Johnson has added sophomores Paul GolderTavon Ngangum and Brian Ferguson, and freshmen Shiloh BealeDarren RiversBryon Scriber and AJ Perdomo to the team in 2017-18.

that's gold, jerry, gold…
 Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams unveiled their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.

hosting maryland juco tournament…
 Prince George's will be hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament for both men's and women's basketball on Feb. 23-25. The top eight teams on both the men's and women's side in the league will fight for Maryland Junior College pride.

men's basketball tradition…
 The men's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament four times (1971-72, 1979-80, 1980-81, 2016-17) and the NJCAA Region XX crown seven times (1990-91, 1992-93, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16).

about the coach… Head coach Brian Johnson begins his second season as the men's basketball head coach. He led the Owls to a 21-9 record last season, to the Maryland JUCO Tournament title and to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title game. The 21 wins marked the first 20-win season since 2013-14. Johnson was inducted into his high school (Mount St. Joseph) hall of fame in the fall of 2017. The Owls are 31-14 under Johnson in his two seasons at the helm.
