LARGO, Md. – Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) made his triumphant return to Prince George's Community College with 21 points to pace the Owls to an 83-59 victory against the University of Maryland Club in the men's basketball season opener.

Stone, who did not play last year, went 8-for-15 from the field, 1 of 3 from behind the arc and 4 of 7 from the free throw line to notch his seventh career 20-point performances and his 17th double-digit game of his career.  The sophomore also added seven rebounds and a steal in the winning effort.

Mykal Johnson (Landover, Md./Charles H. Flowers) added 16 points while James Hagins (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, and Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National College Prep) posted 14 points for the Owls (1-0) in front of the Novak Field House faithful.

Prince George's opened the game by scoring 16 of the first 19 points in the first seven minutes of the tilt. Stone powered the run with seven points and Ford added five points in the run.

After a Stone dunk to give the Owls a 22-12 lead, the Terrapins began to chip away at the lead and cut the margin to 28-26 with 4:25 left in the stanza. Maryland Club never grab the advantage and Prince George's went into the locker room with a 38-35 advantage.

Just like the first half, the Largo program started the final frame strong by going on a 16-3 run nearly the first seven minutes of the half. Stone, who posted 12 points in the second half, recorded 10 of those points in this stretch. Hagins registered the other six points, including a dunk to cap the run with 13:31 on the clock.

The Terrapins cut the margin to 11 points, but could get no closer the rest of the way after the Owls ended the game on a 27-14 surge to set the final score at 83-59.

Greg Hill paced the Maryland Club with 20 points while Jamar Hawkins added 13 points and Andrew Tawaih chipped in 10 points in the loss.
