Montague Scores Twice In 2-All Draw Against Northern Virginia

LARGO, Md.– Ben Montague (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) scored in each half in a 2-all deadlock against Northern Virginia Community College in National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Region XX Division III men's soccer action on Saturday.

Montague got a breakaway down the right side of the field and found the back of the net at the 2:35 mark. After the Nighthawks took a 2-1 lead, Ross Brandon (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) came up from his defense spot and hit a nice serve from the right side and Montague was able to twinkle the twine for the second time on the afternoon at the 69:20 mark to tie the game.

Montague has now scored two goals in a game three times this season after also finding the twine twice against the College of Southern Maryland on Sept. 21 and against Chesapeake College on Oct. 2. The freshman leads the team with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. Brandon notched his first career assist on Montague's second-half goal and now has three points on the year.

Angel Olmedo (Hyattsville, Md./High Point) made three saves in 110:00 minutes of work.

After Montague tied the game at 2 the Owls had three shots and Northern Virginia had two, but neither team had a shot on goal in the final 20 minutes of regulation.

Guillaume Nseke (Largo, Md./Largo) had the only shot in the first extra session, but missed high. In the second OT, Hector Ortiz (Hyattsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) had a shot saved by the Nighthawks netminder in the 102nd minute. Montague had the best chance in overtime, but his shot went right into the arms of the Northern Virginia goalkeeper on a line drive in the 106th minute. The Nighthawks had a shot wide in the second overtime while the Largo team had three corner kicks in the final 10 minutes.

Northern Virginia has played twice on the PGCC Bermuda Field this season and both times have ended in a 2-all draw after battling Union County College to a 2-all standstill on Sept.14.
