Prince George's Athletics To Hold Pep Rally On Thursday, October 18 At Noon In Novak Field House

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George Community athletics department will hold a Pep Rally on Thursday, October 18 at noon in the Novak Field House Gymnasium. The Pep Rally will serve as a sendoff for the Owls men's soccer team to the Region XX Division III Tournament and an introduction to the 2018-19 editions of the Prince George's men's and women's basketball and cheerleading teams. This event is free and open to public.

In addition to in introductions, a spokesman from each team will address the crowd, the cheerleaders will performance, fan on court games, student-athlete game of musical chairs and a dunk contest will take place at the Pep Rally. Hootie the Owl will be available from 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. for photos in the lobby of Novak Field House and everyone that attends the Pep Rally will receive a free gift.

The Prince George's men's soccer team are currently riding a four-game win streak going into its BIG Region XX Division III match at Anne Arundel Community College on Friday. The Owls have four home games left at the PGCC Bermuda Field, including October 10 vs. CCBC Essex, October 13 vs. Northern Virginia Community College, October 16 vs. Allegany College of Maryland and October 19 vs. Montgomery College. The squad is excited to watch and has posted 20 goals in its last five games while holding the opponent to just one goal over that stretch. Prince George's will be looking for its seventh Region XX Tournament title when the tournament commences on Tuesday, October 23. Head coach Tony Galeano is in his first year in Largo, but has coached in the conference for over a decade.

The Prince George's women's basketball team will open its season on Saturday, November 3 at home against Jefferson Community at 2:00 p.m. while the Owls men's team will ignite its season at Novak Field House on Tuesday, November 6 against Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology at 6:00 p.m. The Largo programs will host doubleheaders against Sullivan County Community College (Nov. 18), Hagerstown Community College (Nov. 28), Northern Virginia Community College (Dec. 4), Westmoreland County Community College (Dec. 8), Frederick Community College (Dec. 12), Butler County Community College (Dec. 14), College of Southern Maryland (Jan. 4), Garrett College (Jan. 12), Anne Arundel Community College (Jan. 18), Montgomery College (Jan. 23), CCBC Catonsville (Jan. 25) and Chesapeake College (Feb. 1) during the 2018-19 campaign. All home weeknight doubleheaders will have the women playing at 5 pm. and the men following at 7 p.m. while the weekend dates will tip with the women at 1 p.m. and the men following at 3 p.m.

Prince George's women's basketball will be guided by ninth-year head coach Tiona Harris while the Owl men's program will be under the tutelage of first-year head coach William West. Both teams will have their eyes set on winning another NJCAA Region XX Division III title in 2018-19.
