Hot Start In First Half Fuels Prince George's Men's Basketball To 91-80 Win Against Hagerstown

LARGO, Md. – Tunde Scrivner (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the first half while the Prince George's Community College team started the game shooting 70 percent from the field en route to a 91-80 victory against Hagerstown Community College in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's basketball action on Wednesday.

Scrivner finished the game 9-for-14 from the floor, 5 of 9 from behind the arc and 3 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with a game-high 26 points and his second-best total in his freshman campaign. Scrivner added six assists, three steals and two rebounds on the night. The freshman, who tallied a career-high 31 points against SUNY Sullivan on Nov. 18, is averaging 25.0 points per game in his last three games and leads the team with 18.7 points per game.

The Owls (6-1, 2-1 MD JUCO) started the game connecting on 21 of its first 30 shots in the first half to shoot at a 70 percent clip and to jump out to a 56-30 lead at the half. The squad missed fired on its last five shots of the stanza, but finished the first half with a shooting percentage of 60 percent.

Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Regional) tallied 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals while Dexter Turner (Washington, D.C./Idea Public Charter) matched his career best with 14 points along with registering four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Morales now has 25 career double-figure point games and continues to stuff the stat sheet to average 18.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Turner has reached double figures in four games this season and five times in his career while matching the career-high 14 points he also scored against Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on Nov. 9.

Moetaz Ashkar (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale) broke a 2-all standstill with a free throw at 17:44 to give Prince George's the lead for good at 3-2. The charity toss started a 19-9 run to extend the Owls the lead to 21-11 with 11:47 left in the first half. Turner powered the spurt with three baskets from behind the arc.

With Prince George's holding a 37-26 lead with 5:54 in the opening stanza, the Owls closed the half on a 19-4 run to go into the locker room with a 56-30 lead. Scrivner was the catalyst for this run with 10 points.

Hagerstown outscored the Largo team 50-35 in the second half and cut it to single digits at 89-80 with 23 seconds left, but could get no closer with Prince George's earning its third win at Novak Field House this year.

Darren Rivers (District Heights, Md./DuVal) posted eight points while David Burriss (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) added a career-best six points including a couple of nice jams.

The Owls continue its five-game homestand on Tuesday against Northern Virginia Community College. Game time is 7 p.m. and can be seen on PGCC TV.
