Srivner's Career-High 31 Points Helps Prince George's Men's Basketball Court Marshall Generals In OT, 84-82

LARGO, Md. – Tunde Scrivner (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) capped an 8-2 run to end the game and give Prince George's Community College a two-point lead on a layup with 19 seconds left, and Jordan Hicks (Largo, Md./Henry Wise) came down with the key defensive rebound in the waning seconds of the game to propel the Owls past SUNY Sullivan 84-82 in overtime in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men's basketball action on Sunday. Scrivner finished the afternoon with a career-high 31 points.

After the Generals took an 80-76 lead with 1:41 left, Dexter Turner (Washington, D.C./Idea Public Charter) scored in the lane and then connected on two charity tosses with 72 seconds left to tie the game at 80. Moetaz Ashkar (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale) then slammed home an alley oop from an Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Regional) feeder nine seconds later to give Prince George's an 82-80 lead. SUNY Sullivan retook the lead on a basket off the glass only to see Scrivner hand the Owls the lead and punctuate his career day on a layup with 19 seconds left. The Generals had one more chance, but a missed shot off the glass was corralled by Hicks as time ran out.

Scrivner finished a career-high 31 points thanks to 12-for-18 shooting from the field, 6 of 10 from behind the arc and made from the free throw line. In the second half, the freshman nailed a triple as the shot-clock expired with 7:38 left. He added four rebounds, two steals and one assist. Scrivner has reached double figures all five games this season off the bench and had a career-best 15-point performance against Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology on Nov. 6 and against CCAC Allegheny before Sunday's outpouring. The freshman is averaging 17.4 points per game this season.

Deon Savage (Washington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) added a career-high 16 points off the bench for his first 10-point performance of the campaign after shooting 6 of 8 from the field and 4 of 6 from the free throw line.

Morales continues his all-around performances with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals while Turner posted 10 points, five assists and four steals in the winning effort. Turner posted seven of his 10 points in the final 3:04 of overtime. Turner has recorded double figures in points in three of the five games while he has handed out at least five helpers four times this season and is averaging 8.4 points and 7.0 assists per game. Morales has reached double digits in points in all five contests and is averaging 19.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 4.2 steals per game.

The first half was a period for the Owls play catch up after the Generals kept taking the advantage. With the game tied at 24, SUNY Sullivan scored seven unanswered points to take a 31-24 margin and went into the locker room with a 33-28 lead.

In the second half with the Generals holding a 39-30 advantage, Prince George's went on a 12-3 run to tie the game at 42. Morales had four points in the spurt while Savage, Scrivner, David Burriss (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) and Ashkar also scored in the spurt with Ashkar dunk evening the score at 42 with 13:46 on the clock.

SUNY Sullivan continued to take the lead and the Owls tie it before a 7-0 run by Scriver and Savage erased a four-point margin and gave Prince George's a 57-54 lead with 7:38 left thanks to Scrivner draining a 3-ball as the shot clock expired. The Owls held the upper hand for most of the rest of regulation with the Generals playing catchup before time expired and the two teams played another session.

In overtime, Scrivner gave the Largo team a 73-72 lead on a trey at 4:16 and Turner extended the advantage to 76-72 after making three throws thanks to being fouled behind the arc. SUNY Sullivan scored the next eight points to take an 80-76 lead before Prince George's closed the game on an 8-2 run to earn the extra session victory and improve to 4-1.

Ashkar added six points and nine rebounds in the win for the Owls.

Prince George's returns to action at CCBC Dundalk on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
