Season Ending Loss for Men's Soccer

By MACHEL MILLWOOD

Arnold, Md. - Men's soccer carried their 5 game unbeaten streak into the Region Semi-finals to face Anne Arundel Community College on Friday, October 31, 2014. This was a much anticipated game for both teams, as well as the Owls men were trying to make amends for the loss to Arundel earlier in the season.

Both teams started the half with good defensive plays. Arundel was content on giving the Owls much of the ball possession, while they relied heavily on their counter attacking style of play.

The second half started much like the first. However, Anne Arundel Hector Arvizo was able to break the deadlock in the 70th minute. This 1-0 lead created a back and forth game, with the Owls fighting hard to find an equalizer. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Anne Arundel was able to penetrate their defense once again with another counter attack goal by Juan Tamayo. This second goal was too much for the Owls to overcome and ultimately ended their season with a (11-9-0) overall record.

Although the Owls lost in the Region Semi-finals, they had some individual success stories throughout the season. Linus Seino and Ramario Chapman were named to the All-Region XX DIII Tournament Team to add to their previous selection on the Region XX DIII first and second teams respectively. George Afakpe and Joseph Adeoye were also named to the Region XX DIII second team.
