Tough overtime loss for Owls soccer

The Owls men's soccer team showed some spark last Friday when they hosted CCBC Essex at home. Essex came into the game ranked 5^th in the nation while carrying a perfect 8-0 record.

Although it seemed an intense game from the first whistle, it took both teams early into the second half before the first goals were scored.

The Owls men who were determined to take down another top ten opponent started the second half strong and was able to score the first goal of the game. Mecardo Knight was credited with the goal after receiving an early pass and slotting one past the Essex goalkeeper in the 53^rd minute.

Essex responded immediately and scored a minute later when Kyle Mizell took a shot that deflected pass the Owls goalkeeper Richard Lewis III. This created an exciting game with both teams exchanging shots on goal with hopes of breaking the deadlock. Essex James Canoles looked to be the hero in the 67 minute when he locked on to a through ball to give his team the 2-1 lead.

This lead was also short lived, as the Owls Dominique Ligon scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2. This score carried into the final whistle and ultimately paved the way for overtime.

Overtime was short lived by both teams as Essex was able to pounce on a loose ball inside the Owls penalty box to take the sudden death victory. Roman Bubalo proved to be the hero of the game with his overtime goal after only three minutes played.

The Owls men will look to bounce back on Tuesday, September 22, when they travel to take on CCBC Catonsville. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.
