7th Ranked Owls Men’s Basketball Reaches 20 Wins After Undefeated Weekend

The Prince George's men's basketball team has found their groove – again. The Owls, who currently hold the #7 spot in the NJCAA DIII Rankings, have now won five straight after a 2-0 road trip this past weekend which began with an 89-78 comeback win over Garrett College on Saturday before closing out Region 20 divisional play with a 92-66 rout of Westmoreland County 24 hours later.

Prince George's trailed Garrett by 5 (36-31) at halftime before exploding for a 58-point second half to escape with a double-digit victory against the Lakers. Sophomores Deonte Cooke (27 points, 13 rebounds) and Reed Rebstock (13 points, 10 rebounds) picked up a double-double against Garrett while Cooke matched his season high in scoring during the win. Freshman Jasir Tremble set a new personal season best in scoring with 24 points for the Owls in 23 minutes off the bench. The Owls defense continued to hold held steady against the Lakers, allowing Garrett to connect on just 4 of 26 (15.4%) attempts from deep which helped allow the Owls to swing the lead in their favor following halftime and prevent a Lakers comeback.

Sunday's matchup against Westmoreland wasn't as close with the Owls holding a 10-point lead at the half (50-40) before they stretched it to 26 by the final whistle in the 92-66 victory. All 14 of Prince George's student athletes who suited up on Sunday scored in the outing with Anthony Perry leading the way in a 19-point effort. Tremble (12) and Rebstock (11) rounded out the trio of scorers who finished in double-digits.

The Owls now currently sit at 20-3 on the season with three regular season games remaining on their schedule, two of which will be played at Novak Field House. Up first is DI Baltimore City on Wednesday, February 8th which marks the first matchup between the two programs since the 2018-19 season.
