Weather Delays Divisional Matchup At Westmoreland, Region XX Winner To Be Crowned At A Later Date

Prince George's Community College Baseball will have to wait a little longer before they get their chance to capture their fourth consecutive NJCAA Division III Region XX trophy. After already having to wait a whole year for the opportunity due to COVID-19 cancelling the 2019-20 season, mother nature decided to have the Owls wait just a few more days, at least. Inclement weather across western Pennsylvania throughout this past week along with expected showers over Mother's Day weekend made it impossible to take the field for the doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday, May 8th.

The rescheduled date, which is still yet to be determined as of Friday, May 7th will act as the region tournament as a result of other colleges within the division unable to field a team this season due to COVID. This has left Westmoreland and Prince George's as the only two teams within the division, setting up an intriguing final matchup of the shortened 2020-21 baseball season. In the event the doubleheader results in a split, the Owls will return to Westmoreland on or before Sunday, May 16th to play one final winner-take-all 9-inning game. The winner will decide who gets the opportunity to represent Region 20 in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship hosted by the winner of Region 10 on May 21-22.

For now, the Owls will have to wait until the weather cooperates to play for their chance to return to Districts for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
