Maryland JUCO Championship Games Set For Novak Field House On Sunday

LARGO, Md. – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) Men's And Women's Basketball Championship Games are set for Sunday at Prince George's Community College and Novak Field House. On the women's side, top seed Harford Community College will battle No. 2 Baltimore City Community College at 12 p.m. and on the men's side No. 6 Cecil College faces top seed Harford Community College at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Prince George's will be providing live statistics for both title bouts while PGCCTV will broadcast the championship game on its YouTube channel.

Harford advanced to the women's basketball championship game thanks to a 130-40 win against No. 8 Allegany College of Maryland in the quarterfinals and No. 4 Cecil College in the semifinals 81-64 on Saturday.

Baltimore City defeated No. 7 Hagerstown Community College 118-37 in the quarterfinals and No, 6 Chesapeake College 83-55 in the semifinals on Friday.

The Fighting Owls swept through the MD JUCO regular season while the lone Panthers loss in the conference regular season was a 79-71 decision on Dec. 13 at the hands of the Fighting Owls. Ryan Holder paced Harford with 16 points while Tyana Custus had a team-high 15 points.

On the men's side, top seed Harford used a 90-78 win against No. 8 Prince George's Community College on Friday and a 74-70 victory against Montgomery College in the semifinals on Saturday.

Cecil advanced to the title bout after defeating No. 3 Frederick Community College 78-76 in double overtime and then took down No. 7 College of Southern Maryland 91-86 in overtime on Saturday.

The Fighting Owls downed the Seahawks 85-59 on Jan. 10. Martin Kelly, Jr. and Evanson Ogbonna paced Harford with 13 points each while Cornell Cobin powered the Seahawks with 18 points in the regular season meeting.
