Prince George's Athletics Announces 50th Anniversary Celebration Schedule Of Events

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College athletics is excited to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Prince George's Athletic Department, A Celebration of the Past, Present and Future.

Fifty years is a gold standard and Prince George's athletics has posted some outstanding achievements on the playing fields and in the classroom since the creation of the intercollegiate athletic program in the fall of 1967. We have had success as a team with championships in Region XX, Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference and trips to National Junior College Athletic Association national championships.  We have registered over 120 All-Americans for play on the field and academics.

The 2017-18 athletic season and the 50th Anniversary celebration will give us a chance to reconnect with alumni, teach our current student-athletes about our heritage and engage with future members of the Owl family.

We have had 50 years of great achievements and accomplishments, making this the perfect time to start a new tradition. To culminate the 50th Anniversary of intercollegiate athletics at Prince George's Community College, the athletic department is set to host the Inaugural Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony in April. The nomination process will be released on September 30 with nominations accepted from October 2-December 15.

Prince George's Athletics History
Prince George's Community College first opened its doors on the campus of Suitland High School in 1957 before relocating to the Largo campus in the fall of 1967. During the college's tenure at Suitland High School, Prince George's fielded a men's basketball program. When the college moved to its current location, the birth of the intercollegiate athletics program was formed with the purpose of gender equity. The college joined the National Junior College Athletic Association in 1967. The athletic department currently sponsors seven intercollegiate programs, including the defending NJCAA Region XX Champion men's soccer and baseball programs and the defending Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference Tournament men's basketball team.
