Maryland JUCO Tournament Semifinals Set For Saturday At Novak Field House

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College and Novak Field House will be the home of the 2018 Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Saturday. Tickets are $8.

Prince George's will be providing live statistics throughout the tournament and every game will be streamed online. The semifinals will be on the PGCCOwls YouTube channel before PGCCTV will broadcast the championship game on its YouTube channel.

The women's basketball semifinals start the afternoon when No. 6 Chesapeake College (13-10, 5-5 MD JUCO) battles No. 2 Baltimore City Community College (20-5, 8-2 MD JUCO) at 12 p.m. The Panthers defeated the Skipjacks 75-52 in the regular season meeting on Jan. 3. Chesapeake earned a spot in the semifinals with a 71-65 win against No. 3 Montgomery College while the Panthers moved into the semifinals with a 118-37 victory against No. 7 Hagerstown Community College on Thursday.

The second semifinal features the top seed Harford Community College (21-2, 11-0 MD JUCO) and No. 4 Cecil College (20-4, 7-3 MD JUCO) at 2 p.m. The Fighting Owls downed the Seahawks 78-58 in the regular season matchup on Jan. 11. Cecil defeated No. 5 Frederick Community College 79-57 and Harford earned a 130-40 win against No. 8 Allegany College of Maryland to punch their tickets to the semifinals.

On the men's side, No. 6 Cecil College (11-13, 7-7 MD JUCO) will face No. 7 College of Southern Maryland (15-10, 6-8 MD JUCO) after a pair of upsets on this side of the bracket at 4 p.m. The Seahawks defeated the Hawks 92-79 in the regular season meeting on Feb. 3. Cecil became the second No. 6 seed to defeat a No. 3 seed in the MD JUCO Tournament thanks to a 78-76 double-overtime victory and the College of Southern Maryland stunned No.2 Allegany College of Maryland to set up the semifinal battle.

Fifth-seed Montgomery College (21-6, 10-4 MD JUCO) and top seed Harford Community College (19-6, 13-1 MD JUCO) will play in the other semifinal tilt on the men's side at 6 p.m. The Fighting Owls took the regular season meeting 76-70 on Jan. 17. Montgomery defeated No. 4 Baltimore City Community College 95-84 and Harford downed Prince George's Community College 90-78 to establish the semifinal matchup. The Raptors and Fighting Owls also took out the two teams that battled for the tournament title last season.
