Owls Soccer Season Ends In District Championship

The Prince George's Community College men's soccer season came to a close on Saturday after putting up a fight against #5 nationally ranked Anne Arundel, falling to the Riverhawks 1-0 after conceding the games only goal in the 84th minute.

After a narrow 2-0 loss to Anne Arundel earlier in the year while the Riverhawks were ranked #8 in the nation, the Owls were determined to redeem the prior defeat and upset the top tournament seed in their home stadium. A 90-minute battle between two evenly matched teams came down to the wire before the Riverhawks earned a free kick just outside of the box to set up a late opportunity for Anne Arundel. Prince George's played the free kick well with a defensive wall but an unfortunate deflection off of one of the Owls defenders sent the ball in a different direction than the diving Daniel Villatoro-Ramos. Ramos, who had been in great position for the original path of the ball, was unable to make a play on the redirected shot as the Riverhawks took control 1-0 with 6 minutes to go.

The Owls had a few opportunities in Riverhawks territory down the stretch but were only able to manage two shots, one of which was blocked before it had a chance to get through and the other was sent wide right as time expired.

A battle from start to finish, Prince George's wrapped up the year as Region 20 runners-up for their best postseason finish since 2016. Ramos, along with teammates Francis Ogbankwa and sophomore captain Jonathan Diaz were named to the All-Tournament Team following the game.
