Owls Hot Start Ends With Victory Over Cecil

Two quick goals to open the game from the Owls leading scorers Jonathan Diaz and Francis Ogbankwa in the 9th and 10th minute, respectively, made it appear like Prince George's had set the tone early for Tuesday's game against visiting Cecil College. The Seahawks, however, quickly responded in the 12th as the Owls conceded the first of two goals on the day to Cecil's Akeil John as Prince George's found themselves up just one after a dominant start to head into halftime with the 2-1 lead.

Despite the hot start the Owls were unable to find much momentum in the second half. Plenty of shots were fired off by Prince George's (11) compared to Cecil (6) in the final 45 minutes but it wasn't until almost the 75th when the Owls finally found the back of the net when Jorge Santacruz sent one past the Seahawks keeper to take a 3-1 lead. The Seahawks responded again as Akeil John scored again in the 81st minute to put the pressure on Prince George's down the stretch. The final few possessions by Cecil were able to reach Owls territory but Prince George's did enough to hold onto the lead, closing out the Seahawks 3-2.

Ogbankwa continues to lead the Owls in goals scored on the season with 5 while Diaz is just one behind with 4. Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Villatoro-Ramos picked up his third win of the year, finishing with 5 saves on the day.

The Seahawks drop to 1-6 with the loss while the Owls again climb back to .500 on the year. Prince George's matchup against Chesapeake College originally scheduled for this Thursday, September 22nd has been postponed to Thursday , October 20th so the Owls will have a few days before their next contest comes against NOVA on Saturday, September 24th. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 AM.
