Owls Bounce Back With 2-0 Victory Over CCBC Catonsville

Coming off a physical 9-3 loss to Montgomery College earlier in the week, the Prince George's Community College Men's Soccer team responded on Thursday, September 8th against visiting CCBC Catonsville. The Owls scored just one goal in each half but held the Cardinals offense in check, allowing only two shots on goal which freshman goalkeeper Daniel Villatoro-Ramos (Lanham, MD) was able to collect to earn his second shutout of the season.

The Owls offense controlled the ball for the majority of the first half which created 7 corner kick opportunities for Prince George's. The Owls were able to capitalize in the 11th minute when Brian Gomez-Martinez (Lanham, MD) lofted a corner to a crashing Jonathan Diaz (Oxon Hill, MD), who headed the ball past the CCBC keeper for his third goal of the season. The Owls defense allowed just 2 shots in the first 45 minutes of play but committed 8 fouls with their aggressive defense which gave the Cardinals an extra possession multiple times.

Gomez-Martinez played another long ball early in the second half, this time on the ground, past the Cardinals defense to set up Francis Ogbankwa (Bowie, MD) in a one-on-one opportunity against CCBC's keeper which he won as he sent his shot to the back of the net. Ogbankwa leads the Owls with 4 goals scored on the year. CCBC took 5 more shots in the second half but were unable to pose a real threat with none of them being placed on frame. Meanwhile, the Owls fired off 8 attempts in the second half to outpace the Cardinals in total shots, 11-7 by the final whistle.

A frustrated Cardinals team played physical down the stretch but weren't able to build up a strong enough attack to threaten Prince George's as the Owls closed out the remainder of the half in control to seal the 2-0 win. The victory brings the Owls back to .500 on the year with a 2-2 overall record ahead of their matchup next week against Frederick Community College on Thursday, September 15th in Largo, MD. Kickoff is set for 5 PM.
