Owls Spoil Howard’s Home Finale With 1-0 Win Over Dragons

Riding their momentum from a crucial Region 20 Division 3 win against Allegany on Tuesday, the Prince George's Community College Owls visited the Dragons Lair in Columbia, MD on Thursday prepared to make some noise. The Owls didn't disappoint as they played spoiler on the Dragons sophomore night, downing Howard 1-0 to escape with their first back-to-back wins of the season.

A back and forth first half sent the two programs into halftime scoreless and evenly matched at the break as both teams had chances with four corner kick opportunities apiece, although Howard was able to outshoot the Owls 8 to 5. Howard would ultimately outshoot Prince George's 25 to 9, but it was the Owls Oliver Okanimba who earned his second goal of the season with the decisive goal in the 52nd minute of action as he snuck one past the Dragons keeper.

Howard's offense was persistent the remainder of the game but the Owls defense did just enough to keep the Dragons out of goal and off the scoreboard, highlighted by a last second save from Prince George's keeper Daniel Villatoro-Ramos to help seal the win. Ramos finished the contest with 8 saves in his third shutout of the year.

Prince George's now rolls into the weekend back at .500 with a 5-5 record ahead of two home games next week against Northern Virginia (10/11) and Harford Community College (10/13).
