
Prince George’s Community College Athletics to Hold Free Youth Basketball Clinic on Saturday, June 14th
Prince George's Community College's Novak Field House will host a free youth basketball clinic on Saturday, June 14th during the college's campus-wide Juneteenth day of celebration. Kennith Ford, assistant men's basketball coach, men's basketball student-athletes, and alumni will direct the clinic aimed at delivering an enriching experience for all participants where each player can improve their skills, build friendships, an develop both as a player and an individual.
Participants will be broken up into two groups: ages 8-12 (11:30 AM – 2:00 PM) and 13-18 (1:30PM – 4:00 PM). Free registration is limited to the first 50 participants. Those interested can sign up in advance using this link. The schedule for the day will follow as shown below:
Ages: 8 to 12
Introduction and Skill Development
11:30 am – 12 pm | Registration & Welcome
- Check-in
- Shootaround
- Welcome speech and overview of the clinic
- Introduction of coaches and staff
- Grouping players by age/skill level
12 pm – 12:15 pm | Warm-Up
- Dynamic stretching and light jogging/ led by coaches
- Skill challenge (Free throw contest, relay race) for reward.
12:15 – 1 pm | Dribbling, Passing and Teamwork
- Age-specific dribbling drills (e.g., simple dribbling for younger players, advanced crossovers for older players)
- Cone drills, zig-zag dribbling, and 1v1 speed dribbling challenges
1 pm – 1:45 pm | Shooting Fundamentals
- Focus on proper form (form shooting)
- Shooting drills based on age (e.g., spot shooting for younger players, shooting off the dribble for older players)
1:45 pm - 2 pm | Age-Specific Competitive Shooting games
- Split into small groups for controlled competition
- Awards for clinic standouts
