Prince George’s Intercollegiate Athletics Holds Annual End of Year Banquet

On Monday, May 12th the Intercollegiate Athletics & Intramurals department held its annual end of year banquet to reflect on the year that was, while honoring the student athletes for their success on and off the field of play.

In attendance alongside student athletes and the athletics department staff were the following special guests: Dr. Tyson Beale, Vice President of Student Affairs; Cathy Camp, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs; Geoffrey Colbert, Dean of Student success and Engagement; and other distinguished members of the college community.

During the banquet, department wide awards were announced while each coach revealed their team's Unsung Hero and Most Valuable Player below:

Men's Soccer – Coach Taiye Akinmboni

Unsung Hero: Randy Salvador

Women's Soccer – Coach Bonnie Hyde

Unsung Hero – Tamira Worthy

In addition to team honors were the Academic Excellence Awards for exceptional performance in the classroom as well as Owl Dedication Awards which are presented to student athletes who participated in two years for their sport at the college.

Headlining the department awards were the Male and Female Outstanding Owls which were awarded to Muhammad Sallah and Tamia Washington of the men's soccer and women's basketball team, respectively. 

Both Sallah and Washington wrapped up their two-year playing career in a Prince George's uniform with deep runs into their Region 20 Tournaments with a runner-up finish for the women's basketball team and semifinalist finish for the men's soccer team as programs returned to Division II competition.
