Prince George's Women's Basketball Heads Into NJCAA Region XX Championship Game Against Montgomery College Looking For Fifth Crown

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's women's basketball team continues its quest for its fifth National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III Basketball Championship at the MC-Rockville Gymnasium on the campus of Montgomery College on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the championship game against top-seed and host Montgomery College.

Prince George's (12-12) is powered by freshman Asisha Greene (Washington, D.C.), who leads the Owls with 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Freshman Gina Seifert (Owings, Md.) is second on the team averaging 11.1 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game.

Montgomery College (21-5) is fueled by Armonie Lomax and her 21.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while Caleema Johnson is averaging 21.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and Sheri Addison boasts 19.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

The Owls advanced to the championship game after defeating Butler County Community College 62-57 in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon. Greene led the way with 25 points for her 14th 20-point performance of the season. Seifert added nine points and 12 rebounds while sophomore Andrea Durant-Smith (Temple Hills, Md.) chipped in eight points against the Pioneers. With the game tied at 50, Seifert started a string of eight answered points with a jumper to propel Prince George's past the third seed.

The Raptors moved into the championship game after defeating Westmoreland County 106-56. Johnson led the way with 34 points and 16 rebounds. Lomax (26 points and 12 rebounds), Alandra Bandy (15 points), Addison (15 points) and Anu Bamijoko (10 points, 13 rebounds) also posted double figures on the afternoon.

Montgomery defeated the Owls 80-56 in on Jan. 11 at the Novak Field House. Greene paced Prince George's with 21 points while Seifert posted 13 points and Tatiana Garvin (Bowie, Md.) registered 12 points off the bench. Lomax fueled the Raptors with 22 points while Addison (21 points) and Johnson (18 points) also scored double figures in the win.

It will be the first time the two teams will meet in the NJCAA Region XX Tournament since Montgomery defeated the Owls 80-74 in the 2014 championship game on Feb. 23, 2014.

The Largo team will be looking for its fifth Region XX crown after winning the tournament in 1974-75, 1988-89, 2005-06 and 2014-15.

Head coach Tiona Harris is in her fourth season with Prince George's and is looking for her second Region XX title after guiding the squad to the 2014-15 championship and will be coaching in her third title bout.
