Prince George's Women's Basketball Begins Quest For Fifth NJCAA Region XX Division III Title Against Butler County On Saturday

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's women's basketball team begins its quest for its fifth National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III Basketball Championship at the MC-Rockville Gymnasium on the campus of Montgomery College on Saturday at 1 p.m. The third-seeded Owls will battle second-seed Butler County in the first semifinal of the afternoon.
General admission tickets are $5 per person while college students with a valid ID and children under 12 will be admitted for free. Fan unable to attend the contest can follow @pgccowls on Twitter for live updates throughout the tournament.
Top-seed and host Montgomery (20-5) and No. 4 Westmoreland (15-7) will square off in the other semifinal matchup at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The winners of the two semifinals will play in the championship tilt on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Prince George's (11-12) is powered by freshman Asisha Greene (Washington, D.C.), who leads the Owls with 20.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Freshman Gina Seifert (Owings, Md.) is averaging 11.2 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds per game while Amber Baker (Washington, D.C.) is third on the team with 11.2 points per game.
Dakota Vann paces Butler County (21-7) with 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore Kendriana Washington is second with 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while sophomore Raven Prince is third with 9.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
The tilt between Prince George's and Butler County marks the first contest between the two programs since the Owls defeated the Grizzles 68-37 on Nov. 23, 2015.
Prince George's is coming off an 82-43 loss to Baltimore City in the Maryland Junior College Tournament on Feb. 16. The Owls have won the Maryland Junior College Tournament seven times (1973-74, 1974-75, 1977-78, 1978-79, 1985-86, 1988-89, 2000-01).
The Largo team will be looking for its fifth Region XX crown after winning the tournament in 1974-75, 1988-89, 2005-06 and 2014-15.
Head coach Tiona Harris is in her fourth season with Prince George's and is looking for her second Region XX title after guiding the squad to the 2014-15 championship.
