Prince George's Men's Soccer Begins Quest For Seventh Region XX Title On Thursday At Howard

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team begins its quest for its seventh National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Tournament title on Thursday. The Owls (9-6-1, 1-1-1 Region XX) will be the third seed and face No. 2 Howard Community College (9-8-0, 3-1-0 Region XX) in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. at the Dragons Athletic Complex on the campus of Howard Community College.

In the other semifinals, top-seed Anne Arundel Community College battles fourth seed Northern Virginia Community College at 12 p.m. on Thursday. The winner of the two semifinals will square off in the Region XX Division III Championship on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Prince George's is led by freshman Ben Montague (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) in goals (12) and points (23) while sophomore Moh Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) paces the team in assists (4) and ranks second in goals (5) and points (4). Freshman Aboubacarr Sinera (Lanham, Md./Parkdale) mans the pipes and has recorded 26 saves, a 1.12 saves percentage and a .743 save percentage. Sophomore David Olabisi (District Heights, Md./DuVal) and freshman Ross Brandon (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) anchor one of the nation's Top-12 defenses with a 1.13 goals against average while the Owls rank fifth in the country in shutouts (8).

Prince George's will face Howard in the NJCAA Region XX semifinals for the second-straight season in the as the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. The Owls lost 1-0 to the Dragons in the third game of the season for the Largo program. Sinera made five saves while the decisive goal was scored in the seventh minute and the Dragons held on for the victory.

The Owls defeated top-seed Anne Arundel 2-0 on Oct. 5 on the road. Sherif and Chris Garcia (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) each scored and Sinera turned away one shot in the victory against the Riverhawks. Prince George's battled fourth-seed Northern Virginia to a 2-all standstill on Oct. 13 in Largo with Montague twinkling the twine twice for the Owls in the match.

Prince George's has appeared in the NJCAA Division III Championship Game nine times since 1996 and has won four titles in that span. The Owls have won the Region XX title six times (1982, 1983, 1996, 1999, 2009, 2016) and are looking for their seventh crown in program history.

Head coach Tony Galeano has led the squad to a 9-6-1 overall record, a 6-5 mark in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference matches and 1-1-1 in Division III Region XX action. Galeano coached a team to a region championship game 12 times and five tournament titles prior to coming to Prince George's in 2018.
