Owls Come Up Short On The Road Against CCBC Dundalk

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team returned to the hardwood for the first time in the new year on Saturday, January 8th when the Owls traveled to CCBC Dundalk to take on the Lions. Despite shooting above 41% from the floor on the day, the Owls struggled on defense as the Lions rolled the Owls 103-79. The loss drops Prince George's to .500 on the year at 5-5, including 4-2 in conference play.

The Owls came out slow as the Lions opened up on an 8-0 run before taking a commanding 22-4 lead just minutes later. The Owls sophomore Deonta Dunlap (Baltimore, MD) led the team at halftime with 13 points and 3 rebounds. Meanwhile, the Lions Murray Grant could not be stopped as he racked up 29 points in the first half alone, shooting a near-perfect 11 of 12 from the floor.

The Owls were able to pull to within 12 after an Andreas Muten (Accokeek, MD) layup with 17:09 left before the Lions went on another run to keep the Owls out of reach. Prince George's put together an 11-0 run after finding themselves trailing by more than 20 points to cut the Lions lead to 90-75 with 4:13 remaining. The Lions went on to hit 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch as the Owls were forced to foul to close out the game, 103-79.

Dunlap finished as his team's leading scorer with 21 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Freshmen Anthony Perry (Bowie, MD) and Jahari Simon (Greenbelt, MD) both finished in double-digits as well with 14 and 15 points, respectively. The Owls will have only a couple of days to turn things around and prepare for their next game on Tuesday, January 11th against College of Southern Maryland.
