Men’s Basketball Set To Host Sandhills In Mid-Atlantic District Championship

The Region 20 Champion Prince George's Community College Men's Basketball team will host Region 10 Champion Sandhills Community College inside Novak Field House on Saturday, February 26th at 3 PM for the NJCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic District Championship.

Saturday's matchup will feature a rematch of the District VII Championship in 2019 when the Flyers defeated Prince George's in North Carolina to earn a trip to the National Tournament. Owls head coach William West was in his first season during the 2018-19 year and will now host the Flyers at his home court with another chance to guide the program to the National Tournament for the first time since the 2007-08 season when Prince George's was a NJCAA Division II institution.

The Owls up-and-down regular season ended with a win before Prince George's sneaked out a double overtime win in the Region 20 tournament semifinals before reclaiming the Region trophy against Anne Arundel. The Flyers experienced their own struggles during the Region 10 tournament with a slim 3-point victory in the semifinals before their own overtime win in the championship game.

With both teams finding ways to win when it matters the most, expect the same from Sandhills and Prince George's with a bid to Rockford, Illinois on the line when the two teams tipoff Saturday at 3 o'clock.

All Prince George's Community College students, staff, and faculty are free to enter Saturday's game with a current college ID. Prince George's County Public Schools staff and students can enter Saturday's game at no cost with a current school ID and a copy of their vaccine card. All other spectators must purchase a ticket online and present a copy of their vaccine card and ticket prior to entering. The full Novak Field House COVID-19 protocols can be viewed HERE.
