Owls Edged By Hagerstown In Another Close Battle

The Owls men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the fourth time in eight days on Wednesday, February 9th when Prince George's hosted Region 20 Division I opponent Hagerstown Community College inside Novak Field House. Prince George's again began to mount a second half comeback but came up short in the end as the Hawks were able to pull away, 65-54. Prince George's has now dropped four straight ahead of their regular season finale on Saturday, February 12th.

The Owls held a lead for just one possession early on before playing from behind for the remainder of the first half, but were able to remain within striking distance of the Hawks.  Prince George's entered halftime trailing 30-22. Six different players had scored at the break with Alonzo Wilkes nearing a double-double with 8 points, 8 rebounds. Deonte Cooke added 6 while Dajuan McMillan, Deonta Dunlap, Keynante Williams, and Andreas Muten each had 2.

The Owls opened the second half with a 14-6 run to notch things up at 36 at the 14:05 mark and later took a one-point lead (39-38) after a McMillan three-pointer. The Hawks responded with a run of their own to regain the lead. Prince George's was able to tie it up once more at 49 with a Rebstock tip-in at the rim but Hagerstown again came back to regain the lead for good, closing out the Owls 65-54. The Owls 54 points was their second-fewest total of the season, behind only their 47-point performance against Howard earlier in the month.

Wilkes (14 points, 12 rebounds) picked up his fourth double-double of the season in the loss while Rebstock (10 points, 10 rebounds) recorded his first collegiate double-double.

The Owls now have one more opportunity to right the ship before they enter postseason play when they host CCBC Catonsville this Saturday, February 12th at 4 PM. The #1 seeded Owls will then have a week off before they play the winner of #5 Butler County Community College and #4 Pennsylvania Highlands at Anne Arundel Community College at on Saturday, February 19th at 2:30 PM.
