Former Owl Jordan Martinez Named Next Head Baseball Coach

Prince George's Community College Athletics Director Jo Ann Rogers Todaro is pleased to announce the hiring of Jordan Martinez as the next head coach of the Owls baseball program. Martinez takes over a squad that finished the 2022 season as the Region 20 Division III runner-up in the program's first full season back from the pandemic. Martinez has spent the last 7 seasons as a senior assistant coach at Bishop McNamara High School in nearby Forestville, MD.

Martinez originally joined the staff at Bishop McNamara as a volunteer primarily working with the infielders before quickly being elevated as an assistant coach where he developed players at the plate in addition to his fielding duties. Martinez helped lead the Mustangs to one of their most successful seasons in recent years during the 2019 campaign where they finished 22-7 and produced the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Player of the Year in Ian Cawthorne. Martinez also recently became involved in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, assisting with the D.C. Grays over the past two summers.

Coach Martinez is eager to get started in Largo as he shared, "I'm looking forward to giving back to the program that gave me the chance to play college baseball and helped mold me into the person that I am today. I expect to field a competitive team while helping individuals improve both as a student and an athlete to move onto a four-year school with their associates degree."

Martinez, a former Prince George's Community College student athlete himself, was a member of the Owls baseball team from 2010-12 before transferring to Neumann University where he continued his playing career with the Knights. During his playing days as an Owl, Martinez was twice named to the Division III All-Region 20 Team and was selected to the All-Maryland JUCO 2nd Team during his sophomore campaign where he finished 10th in the nation with a .467 batting average while primarily serving at first base.

Martinez plans on hosting a fall 2022 season before returning to action in the spring when he anticipates vying for another Region 20 title for Prince George's. A Prince George's County native and current employee for the county school system as a literacy coach, Martinez has an established network of local connections that have allowed him to begin recruiting nearby locations while also developing relationships with outside prospects.
