Owls Falls to CCBC Essex, Look Ahead to Carroll Lynx

Prince George's men's soccer team entered Thursday's home match against CCBC Essex riding a two-game winning streak after starting off winless in their first four games. A recent surge in the Owls offense which saw them outscore their opponents 17-1 in their previous two contests looked to be just what they needed to upset Essex. However, Prince George's wasn't able to replicate their recent success as the Owls found themselves trailing 6-0 after the first half, and ultimately fell to the Knights 11-0 by the final whistle.

The Owls defense had rallied around freshman goalkeeper Axel Vargas after posting a shutout earlier in the week. Vargas started off strong after making a diving penalty kick save in just the 7th minute only to have Essex gather the rebound and put it in the back of the net for their first goal. Prince George's failed to respond as they would go on to concede ten more goals against the Knights, ultimately losing 11-0 to drop to 2-5 on the year.

The Owls will now turn their attention to Carroll Community College who they face on Saturday, October 2nd in Westminster, Maryland. Their matchup against the Lynx will be Prince George's fourth game in seven days before the Owls earn a three-day break before they return again next week.

The Lynx are currently 0-6 on the season and have averaged only 1 goal per game. Meanwhile, the Owls have averaged over 3 goals per game and will be looking to bounce back on the road for just their second ever matchup against Carroll Community College. The first meeting between the two campuses resulted in a 3-1 Owls victory during the 2019 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM.
