Owls Pick Up Their First Win of The Season In Big Fashion at Westmoreland

For the first time in nearly two years the Prince George's Community College men's soccer team picked up a win after the Owls dominated Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday, September 25th with a final score of 11-1. The victory marked the first of the year for the Owls who had a challenging start to the season, losing four straight before they took care of business against the Wolfpack. The win moves the Owls to 1-4 while Westmoreland drops to 0-2. The Owls are now tied with Anne Arundel atop the Region 20 Division III standings at 1-0.

The victory also marked the first collegiate head coaching win for Owls interim head coach Cedric Mansaray. Mansaray originally joined Prince George's as an assistant for the 2018 season, a position he held until he was named interim head coach just prior to the start of the 2021 season.

A much-needed win for the Owls saw the team match their previous goal total for the season in just the first half as Prince George's jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first 45 minutes. Four different Owls scored in the half:  Jonathan Diaz (Oxon Hill, MD) with two goals himself, Iremitide Oyewole (Bowie, MD), Miguel Rosales (Fairmont Heights, MD), and Victor Oluwafolayemi (Hyattsville, MD).

Prince George's continued to dominate in the second half as they poured in three more goals to take an 8-0 lead before Westmoreland was able to sneak one past the Owlsin the 76th minute to end their shutout, 8-1. Prince George's allowed only two shots on goal for the entire day. The Owls refused to let up over the final 14 minutes as they rattled off three more goals to finish off Westmoreland, 11-1. Sophomore Miguel Rosales scored back-to-back goals early in the second half to complete a hat trick on the day, bringing his total goals scored on the year to 5, tied with freshman Oluwafolayemi for the most on the Owls roster.

The Owls will reload on Monday before travelling to Chesapeake College on Tuesday, September 28th to take on the Skipjacks in Wye Mills, MD. The Owls will look to keep rolling against the Skipjacks who have struggled to start their season in route to an 0-5 record. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 o'clock.
