Prince George's Set To Host NJCAA Region XX Division III Men's And Women's Basketball Tournaments This Weekend

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team begins its quest for its eighth Region XX title as the top seed and host when the NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament commences on Saturday from Novak Field House on the campus of Prince George's.

Tickets for tournament games is $8. If you cannot make it to the tournament, Prince George's is providing live stats for both the men's and women's tournament.

The Owls (19-5, 6-0 Region XX) will open the semifinals against the fourth-seed Pennsylvania Highlands Community College (11-13, 4-0 Region XX) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Second-seed Anne Arundel Community College (9-15, 4-1 Region XX) will battle No. 3 Butler County Community College (12-13, 6-2 Region XX) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the other semifinal tilt.

It will be championship Sunday at Novak Field House. In the NJCAA Region XX Division III Women's Basketball Championship Game, Anne Arundel Community College (8-13, 3-0 Region XX) will face Butler County Community College (9-12, 3-1 Region XX) at 12 p.m. The two winners of Saturday's men's basketball semifinals will advance to the NJCAA Region XX Division III Championship Game with a 3 p.m. tip. The NJCAA Region XX Division III men's and women's champions will advance to the district tournaments.

Prince George's is led by sophomore Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Regional), who fuels the team with 19.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.9 steals per game. Freshman Tunde Schriver (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) ranks second on the team with 17.8 points per game while sophomore Dexter Turner (Washington, D.C./Idea Public Charter) leads the team with 7.1 assists per game and ranks third with 10.0 points per game.

The Owls defeated Pennsylvania Highlands 81-60 at the McDonalds Basketball Tip-off Tournament on November 9. Morales fueled the team with 18 points and 15 rebounds and Turner posted 14 points and 10 rebounds while Scrivner (12 points) and Miles Weaver (Alexandria, Va./Takoma Academy) (12 points) also found double figures in the game.

Fueled by 20 points from Scrivner, Prince George's defeated Anne Arundel 72-56 on January 18 to earn the top seed in the tournament. Morales tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds against the Riverhawks.

Scrivner also scored a team-high 16 points in a 102-62 victory against Butler County Community College on December 14. Morales (15 points), Jordan Hicks (Largo, Md./Henry Wise)  (14 points), Turner (12 points) and Darren Rivers (District Heights, Md./DuVal) (11 points) also reached double digits in points.

Prince George's is looking for its first region title since 2015-16. The Owls have also won the NJCAA Region XX Division III titles in 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15 while also claiming Division II crowns in 1990-91, 1992-93 and 2007-08.

Interim head coach William West has guided the Owls to a 19-5 overall mark and swept through Region XX Division III action. West was an assistant coach in the previous two seasons when the Owls advanced to the NJCAA Region XX Division III Championship Game.
