Track & Field Closes Out Regular Season at Elizabethtown

The Prince George's Community College men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their final regular season meet over the past weekend, traveling to Elizabethtown College for the Blue Jay Tune-Up. Both teams finished in the top-10 with both programs grabbing the number 9 spot. Prince George's was one of four community colleges in attendance among the 15 programs on the men's side and 14 on the women's.

Both Serena Prince and Blessing Nwoke participated for the Lady Owls with Nwoke placing 8th in the triple jump with a distance of 8.98 meters which was a new personal best. Nwoke improved by half a meter over her previous best at the Mid-Atlantic JUCO Invitational. Prince competed in several events which included the 100 meter which she finished 5th in the prelims to advance to the finals where she finished 6th with a mark of 14.35 seconds. She finished 7th in the high jump at 1.40 meters and 4th in the long jump with another personal record of 4.61 meters. Prince continued to excel at the triple jump where she again set a new PR of 10.74 meters which currently ranks second in the nation and qualifies her for Nationals being held in Utica, New York from May 11-13. 

On the men's side both Elijah Eguridu (5.48m) and Javon Watts (5.47m) set new personal bests in the long jump while Jayden Socka had a career day, finishing with new bests in the 100 meter, triple jump, and shot put.  

Rashid Blackmon qualified for two events on the day with a time of 23.17 seconds in the 200 meter and 51.82 in the 400 meter. Blackmon previously qualified in the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles as well as the 4x100 relay alongside teammates Maurice Franklin, Chris Gbakinro, and Javon Watts.

Both teams now turn their attention to the Nationals held in Utica, NY at Mohawk Valley Community College. This will be Prince George's first time returning to Nationals since 2018 where the women's team finished in the top 25 programs and the men's finished in the top 15.
