The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team fell to Montgomery College, 7-0 on the road in Rockville, MD on Tuesday, October 5th. The Raptors currently sit atop the Maryland JUCO men's soccer standings with a 9-1 overall record, including a flawless 9-0 within conference play. Prince George's is near the bottom with a 2-7 record, including 1-6 in conference play.
The Owls defense was able to keep the Raptors attack under control for the first 20 minutes of play before a foul by Prince George's just outside of the 18-yard box led to the first goal for Montgomery on a set piece. The Owls surrendered another goal 15 minutes later to find themselves trailing 2-0 as they neared halftime. A promising attack from Prince George's in the 36th minute created a corner kick opportunity before the Raptors ended any chance of an Owls score, quickly clearing the corner from freshman Saul Viera (Hyattsville, MD). Prince George's failed to tighten up on defense in the closing minutes of the first half as the Owls gave up two quick goals in the 43rd and 44th minute to suddenly find themselves down 4-0 as they entered halftime.
The Owls came out aggressive in the second half, charging down the field just minutes after kick-off before Dwayne Kerr (Upper Marlboro, MD) placed a cross just barely out of reach for a header from Victor Oluwafolayemi (Hyattsville, MD), right in front of the Raptors goal. Prince George's offense then sputtered the remainder of the half, registering only one shot to finish the day with five total attempts.
Montgomery added a trio of goals over the final 34 minutes of regulation to send the Owls home with a 7-0 defeat. Freshman Axel Vargas finished the day with 8 saves.
Prince George's will need to put the loss behind them as they look ahead to their next matchup scheduled against Howard Community College at home on Thursday, October 7th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
