Late Game Heroics Propel Owls to Fourth Straight Win

Prince George's men's soccer returned home to Largo, MD for their first home game in two weeks to face The College of Southern Maryland in another conference matchup. 

The Hawks (2-6-1, 1-6-0) came out strong as they found themselves leading 1-0 nearly 16 minutes into the contest. Another goal in the 33^rd minute put the Hawks up 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Owls (6-0-1, 5-0-1) responded in the second half, creating plenty of opportunities on offense while tightening up on defense. Temilolu Idowu was able to find his way into the Hawks defensive zone until he was fouled in the box, creating a penalty shot attempt which he was able to convert in the 62^nd minute to cut into the Hawks lead. Just three minutes later, another Hawks penalty in the box created a second penalty shot attempt which Temilolu Idowu again converted, tying the game 2-2 with twenty-five minutes left to play. Prince George's continued their attack for the remainder of regulation but were unable to take the lead, causing the match to head into overtime.

This time it was sophomore Brandon Betts who saved the day for the Owls. Just 5 minutes into the first period of overtime, Betts found himself with some separation just outside the box and noticed the Hawks keeper was out of position. Betts delivered a beautiful, game-winning goal that was placed just out of reach of the keeper to give the Owls a 3-2 victory.

Up next for Prince George's is an away match against Frederick Community College. The Owls will travel to Frederick, Maryland to face the MD JUCO conference leader Cougars (7-1-0, 6-0-0) on Thursday.
