Owls Men's Soccer Beat #8 Ranked Bergen

Herkimer, NY. – The Owls men's soccer team opened the season splitting two games beating #8 ranked Bergen Community College on Saturday 1-0 but were edged by #7 ranked Herkimer 4-3 on Sunday, August 28, 2016.

The Owls started the game against Bergen creating multiple chances and locking them inside their defensive third for most of the first half. With both teams battling to gain control of the game, the Owls were able to put different combinations together but both teams were unable to break the deadlock.

The second half continued just like the first, with the Owls outshooting Bergen but couldn't hit the back of the net. It took the Owls 8 minutes into the first overtime for the Owls to break the deadlock and secure the 1-0 victory. Alton West was able to slot home the Owls first goal of the season off a pass from Fabian Castillo to have the Owls advance to the final matchup against Herkimer.

In the game against Herkimer the Owls took the 1-0 lead early but lost that lead with 3 minutes left in the half. With multiple rain delays the game got intense in the second with both teams exchanging multiple goals with less than 15 minutes played. With the game tied 3-3, both teams were on the attack for the game winner after exchanging multiple attempts on goal. Herkimer was able to break the deadlock with 19 minutes to go and earned the 4-3 win over the Owls.

The Owls next game will be on Saturday, September 3 vs Nassau the NJCAA defending Champions and still the #1 ranked team in the country. The game will be played at The Soccerplex in Germantown. Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
