Owls Shut Out Anne Arundel

Playing in the fifth game of the season and the first on the road, Prince George's Community College men's soccer team opened conference play with a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Anne Arundel Community College. It was a hard fought game by both teams. However, the Owls were able to grasp control of the game by dominating overall possession of the ball, which resulted in a final shot count of 11 to 1. 

The Owls took the lead with a first half strike from Yanick Formatum assisted by Herrison Ambe after a good build up down the left side of the field. This trend continued for much of the first half, but Anne Arundel showed their resilience by tightening their defense and was able to enter the half with only a one-goal deficit.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first. With the Owls pushing to get the second goal of the evening, while Anne Arundel showed composed defending with hopes of scoring on the counter attack.

The break through finally came for the Owls midway in the second half after a quick combination play between Yannick Fomatum and David Emerson that resulted in Emerson being taken down in the opponent's box. This led to a penalty kick. Team Captain Dominic Atabongakeng was able to capitalize from the penalty spot giving him his second goal in three games while ensuring the Owls the 2-0 lead and victory.

Overall, it was a strong performance by the Owls defense anchored by Joel Musa and Linus Seino. Their performance allowed Goalkeeper Reynero Pacheco to preserve the win with minimum work, as he earned is first shutout of the season.

The Owls next game will be at home against Hagerstown Community College on September 10, 2013. Kickoff is set for 6.00pm.
