Tough Weekend for Owls Men’s Soccer

The Owls men soccer team earned a tough point on the road after playing their second game in 22 hours. It all started with a devastating lost to the College of Southern Maryland on Saturday 14, when the boys gave up a late goal in the second half that served to be the game winner. The first half was hard fought between both teams, with Southern Maryland scoring first and taking a 1-0 lead into half time.

With the tempo of the game slowing the second half, the Owls finally settled down and were able to penetrate Southern Maryland's defense with quick passing. This allowed Yannick Formatum more space and time, and after cunning footwork on his way to goal he was taken down in the penalty box. Dominic Atabongakeng stepped up and was able to convert the spot kick to tie the game at one a piece. The intensity of the game picked up once again, with both teams getting good opportunities on goal. This eventually led to the game winner by Southern Maryland in the dyer minutes of the second half.

Nevertheless, the Owls men were back on the road early the next morning with a trip to Potomac State College of West Virginia. This would prove to be a hard fought game with a 1pm start time, having played a nail biter less than 24hrs earlier and this their 3rd game in five days. It was a good battle for the men at Prince George's Community College who despite all the odds were able to earn a point. Tired legs played its part, with the Owls dominating possession and shots on goal. However, they were unable to find the back of the net and this resulted in the game ending in a 0-0 tie after double overtime.

The Owls intend to get back on track on Tuesday September 17, when they face Frederick Community College at home. Kick off is set for 6:00pm.
