Men’s Soccer Advance to Semifinals

Men’s Soccer Advance to Semifinals

It was another good team win for the men's soccer team when they hosted Northern Virginia Community College in the quarter finals of the Region XX playoffs last night. Every player was excited about making it to the playoffs and showed their enthusiasm with their approach to the game. The jitters and excitement could be seen around the locker room as players arrived hours in advance to go through their game day preparations.

The game started with Northern Virginia seeing most of the possession from the opening whistle. This allowed them to penetrate the Owls defense early to score the opening goal in the 10th minute on their only shot of the half.  This was an eye opener for the Owls players, who instantly took control of the game to off load a barrage of shots, but unfortunately they had nothing to show for their hard work going into the half.

The second half started with the owl players showing even more confidence in the attack.  This was seen with faster ball movement and more players pushing forward forcing Northern Virginia deeper in their own half. Finally, Dennis Ezenwaka was able to tie the game in the 60th minute with a wonderful strike that went in off the cross bar from a Romario Chapman corner kick. This sent the fans and players alike into loud cheers of excitement and relief. This also forced the Northern Virginia players into more of a panic as they did whatever it took to get the ball out of their own box.

Nevertheless, the game was tied until the 83rd minute before Joseph Adeoye, the 6'5 freshman, was able to slot one past the NOVA goal keeper from a Dominic Atabongakeng pass, to give P.G the lead and ultimately the win. This goal echoed waves of excitement as it pushed the Owls men into the Region XX semifinals to face Potomac State College who were waiting on the winner of this game.

The Region XX semifinal and finals will be hosted by Prince George's Community College on Thursday and Saturday respectively. The first game on Thursday will see Montgomery College vs. Howard Community College at 3pm and the host Prince George's vs. Potomac State at 5pm. Both winners will advance to the finals on Saturday with a kickoff set for 12 noon.

Please come out and support your home team as they strive to win the Region XX Title. This would qualify them for the NJCAA DIII National Championship to be held at Herkimer County Community College on November 14-17.
