Owls fall short in the first game of the year

Largo, Md. - On Sunday, January 4, men's basketball lost their first game of the New Year to Nassau Community College. This was a tough loss after the team ended 2014 on a 2 game win streak beating CC of Allegheny County-Allegheny and Monroe College JV.

The Owls men had a great start against Nassau and were able to hold a 2 point lead heading into the half, despite being shorthanded because of nagging injuries that left some players inactive and others playing at less than 100 percent.

However, this made for a very exciting game that saw 11 lead changes and several opportunities for either side to snatch the victory within the last 2 minutes. Nonetheless, Nassau Community College was able to take the lead and eventually stole the victory with a final score of 71-66.

Robert Tyler II led the way for the Owls with 23 points and 3 assist while Malik Sneed and Kenneth Pettaway scored 9 points each with 8 and 10 rebounds respectively. Shakqueel Waldron scored 17 points and 9 rebounds and Jaleel Charles chipped in with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Nassau, despite both players being ejected from the game late in the second half.

The Owls will travel to face top rivals Montgomery College on Saturday, January 10. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM.
