Men's Basketball Victorious Over St. Mary's JV

As the 5th team in the MD JUCO standings, the Men's Basketball team at Prince Georges Community College has fought for their 13th victory against St. Marys JV team with a final score of 88-71.

The team started off strong with a 9-1 score early, forcing St. Marys to call a time-out 2 and a half minutes into the game.

The standout player of the game was sophomore forward David Duncan who scored close to his season high with 22 points including a remarkable 20 total rebounds.

Among Duncan, there were 3 other players who contributed double digits to the victory, freshman guard Gabriel McCray, sophomore guard NieRonn Miles, and freshman guard William Johnson.

McCray started a rally for the owls early in the game when he stole the ball from a St. Marys player and dribbled it all the way for an astonishing dunk.  This led to a steadily increasing lead over St. Marys.

Utilizing the shot clock effectively, Johnson nailed a 3-point buzzer beater that caused the fans to get extremely excited.  Later in the game he nailed two 3-pointers back-to-back with ease. He led the team in 3's with 4 total.

As well as contributing to the score, Miles led the owls in steals throughout this victory with 5, all leading to points on the board.  These steals contributed to his team high number of assists with 12 for the game.

Every time a St. Marys player scored a 3-pointer, an Owls player quickly answered back with at least 2 points on the board, not allowing St. Marys to get in a groove to close the lead.

The owls never fell behind St. Marys during this game, extending the highest lead to 22 points with 7 minutes left in the game.  Because of the lead, St. Marys players were forced to spend the last 2 minutes of the game fouling to stop the clock, but the Owls had possession of the ball for the last 31 seconds of the game as they passed the ball around for their victory, the excited fans shouted and clapped.

The Owls host Montgomery College on Saturday, February 2. Women will tip off at 2pm and men tip off at 4 pm.
