Lady Owls Fall To Chesapeake College On The Road

Prince George's women's basketball traveled to Wye Mills, MD on Wednesday evening, February 12th to take on Chesapeake College in the Owls fourth straight conference matchup. After a hot start in the first period which allowed Prince George's to jump out in front, the Owls struggled to defend the Skipjacks high powered offense for the remainder of the game, eventually falling to Chesapeake 103-64. With the loss the Owls currently stand at 10-12 on the year including 3-8 in Maryland JUCO play.

The Owls came out hitting their first three shot attempts, two of which were three-pointers from freshman Trinity Workman as Prince George's built an 8-2 lead two minutes into the contest. Chesapeake (16-4, 9-2 MD JUCO) was able to tie the score at 15 with two minutes remaining before Prince George's closed out the period on a 3-0 run to enter the second leading 18-15. The Owls then began to fall apart in the second period as they committed 12 turnovers over the ten minute span as Chesapeake outscored the Owls 24-12 to send Prince George's into the half trailing 29-30. Workman led all scorers at the break with 17 points. Fellow freshman Kori People was second in scoring for the Owls with 6 points while adding 7 rebounds.

Prince George's was able to protect the ball better in the third period, cutting their turnovers in half from the previous quarter. However, the Owls weren't able to get much going offensively as they were able to produce only 11 points compared to Chesapeake's 30 as the Skipjacks further distanced themselves from the Owls. Entering the final period trailing 69-41, the Owls focused on getting into the lane to create high percentage shots which also often sent them to the line resulting in hitting 12 of 17 attempts from the line. The Owls closed out the contest hitting three free throws as they were handed a 103-64 loss.

Workman finished as the Owls leading scorer with 25 points while People recorded her fifth double-double of the year as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Owls will look to get back to .500 on the year with upcoming games against Community College of Beaver County and will finish off the 2019-2020 regular season at Hagerstown Community College. Prince George's faces Beaver County this coming Sunday, February 16th in Novak Field House for the Owls final home game. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 A.M.
