Teresa Seifert Named Prince George’s Community College Softball Head Coach
LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College Athletics Director Jo Ann Rogers Todaro has announced the hiring of Teresa Seifert as the softball head coach.
Seifert is looking to have a softball season in the spring of 2018. Any Prince George's students interested in trying out for the team should send an email to seifertd@pgcc.edu for more information.
"I am thrilled to welcome back Teresa Seifert to our athletic department as our new softball head coach," said Todaro. "She has been a great asset to Prince George's Community College as a professor and former women's basketball head coach, and I believe she will help make our softball program competitive again in our region."
Seifert has been a member of the Prince George's Community College faculty for 32 years in the health and physical education department. She also coached the Owls women's basketball team for seven years and all three of her children have attended the college.
"With the full support of Athletics Director Jo Ann Rogers Todaro, I am excited about, and look forward to the challenge of building a competitive softball program here at Prince George's Community College," said Seifert.
She served as the head coach of the Prince George's women's basketball team from 1986-93 and won a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference Tournament titles in 1989.
Her son Stevie graduated from Prince George's Community College in 2015 and was a member of the Owls 2014 baseball team that won the NJCAA Division III Region XX and advanced the World Series. Stevie went on to graduate from the University of Maryland. Her oldest daughter Lisa played two seasons on the Prince George's women's basketball team, and was named the Prince George's Athletics Student-Athlete of the Year In 2016 and was selected to the NJCAA All-Academic second team in 2017. A 2017 graduate of Prince George's Community College, Lisa began her first semester at Salisbury University in August. Gina is the youngest in the family and is in her second year at the college. Last year she was named to the NJCAA Region XX All-Tournament team for women's basketball, the Prince George's Athletics Student-Athlete of the Year and to the NJCAA All-Academic first team, an honor only bestowed to those student-athletes with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Seifert has coached softball at the Youth Little League and high school level for 14 years and was a player at the highest level for 15 seasons.
She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1979 with a degree in physical education/K-12 grades and earned her master's degree from Bowie State in 1983 in physical education/secondary education. In addition, Seifert worked toward her doctorate at the University of Maryland.
