Owls Host Allegheny County To Determine Region 20 Winner

Prince George's baseball will welcome Allegheny County for a best-of-three series in Largo beginning Friday, May 5th to determine a Region 20 Division III winner that will represent the region in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship. The Owls, who are coming off a split with Cecil College over the past weekend, will get a chance to avenge their earlier season doubleheader matchup against CCAC during which they were swept.

Prince George's enters with a 7-25 record on the season while CCAC's Wildcats are currently 14-7. The two teams first met on Saturday, April 8th which was the tail end of a road trip for the Owls after playing Butler County the day prior. Allegheny handled the Owls in game one, 17-3 in 5 innings but game two was much different as the only run scored came in the bottom of the first for the Wildcats to escape with a 1-0 victory. Prince George's didn't make things any easier for themselves in the second game either after committing three errors during the loss.

Now approaching 6 days of rest since their last game took place, and playing on their home field, the Owls head coach Jordan Martinez is hopeful his team can produce a different result the second time around.

The first game on Friday will be a 7-inning contest which will be followed by a 9-inning game approximately 20 minutes after game one concludes, since it's the championship matchup with the winner of game one needing only one more victory to claim the title. Should the two teams split the games played on Friday, a single 9-inning championship game will take place on Saturday, May 6th with an 11 AM start time.

The winner between the Prince George's and CCAC series will then travel to North Carolina to take on the Region 10 winner for another best-of-three series for a District Championship. The winner will be crowned the Mid-Atlantic District Champion and will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series played at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, Tennessee from May 27-May 31/June 1.
