Owls Lose 1-0 at Hagerstown

By Machel Millwood

The Owls men soccer team lost their 3rd game of the season on Wednesday to Hagerstown Community college. It was a hard fought game by both teams with each looking to improve their overall record and advance in the MD JUCO standings.

The Owls started the game on the attack and recorded the first meaningful shots on goal. This created a wide open game with both teams trying to capitalize on the others mistakes in an attempt to open the scoring.

The half ended with a 0-0 tie with the Owls missing out on the better opportunities to score.

The second half started much like the first with both teams trying to show their dominance in the attack. Again it was the Owls who were able to get the first meaningful possessions but Hagerstown’s goalkeeper and defense continued to make timely saves and plays.

In the 57th minute Hagerstown was able to take the 1-0 lead after a quick counter attack cracked the Owls defense. This one goal advantage gave them the momentum and confidence they needed, as they were contented with sitting back and absorbing the pressure. With time running out, the Owls men worked relentlessly but were unable to get an equalizer.

The Owls ended the game with a 21-9 shots advantage. However, Hagerstown was able to walk away with the 1-0 win.
