Impressing Pitching helps the Owls pass Anne Arundel

Largo, MD. - The Owls baseball team wrapped up the regular season portion of its home schedule on Thursday afternoon with a matchup versus Anne Arundel Community College. Coming off of a 1-1 series split with Hagerstown this past Sunday and a huge win against Cecil College on Wednesday, the Owls (14-14) hosted Anne Arundel Community College (9-27) a team that had lost their last three games on the road.

The Owls and Pioneers faced off earlier this season with the Pioneers securing an 8-5 win on March 31. This early loss set the stage for an interesting battle, as the Owls were determined to make amends for the earlier defeat as well as the team has improved as the season progressed.

Versus the Pioneers, the Owls secured a 4-0 lead by the 4th inning and never looked back. Good pitching by Nicholas Rathke kept the Pioneers off the board until late into the game before they were able to score their first run. In the 8th inning the Owls pulled a run back to maintain their four run advantage. Although they received a late scare with the Pioneers loading the bases in the 9th, Rathke proved the better pitcher on the day by throwing 3 consecutive strikes to end the game. This gave the Owls the win with a final score of 5-1.

The Owls final games of the regular season will be on the road to Chesapeake and Allegany College on Saturday, April 25, and Wednesday, April 29, with a 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM start time respectively.
