Lady Owls Fall To CCBC Essex

Prince George's women's basketball traveled to the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Essex Wednesday evening, January 22nd to take on the Knights in their first year back as a program. The Maryland JUCO opponent proved to be a tough challenge as the Owls fell to the NJCAA Division II nationally ranked Knights by a final score of 104-58. Prince George's falls to 9-8 (2-5 MD JUCO) with the loss while Essex improves to 20-2 (6-0 MD JUCO).

The Owls quickly found themselves trailing 19-7 just seven minutes into the contest before they were able to put together a 6-0 run to finish off the first period, heading into the break down by six with the score now 19-13. The Owls struggled to get much moving offensively in the second period, shooting a lowly 22% from the floor to collectively put in 12 points while allowing the Knights to score another 25 to enter halftime trailing 44-25. Freshman guard Trinity Workman led the Owls in scoring at the break with 8 points to go along with 5 steals.

The Owls defense continued to fight in the final periods but were unable to contain the Knights offensive attack while simultaneously failing to produce on their own offensive side of the ball which allowed Essex to run away with the remainder of the game, handing the Owls a 104-58 loss. Freshman DaJine'e Gatling finished as the Owls leading scorer with 18 points while adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Prince George's will look to bounce back this Saturday when the Owls travel to take on Montgomery College in another MD JUCO contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
