Men's Soccer Upsets Undefeated Potomac State

On Saturday, September 29 the Prince George's Community College Men's Soccer Team took on undefeated Potomac State College from West Virginia.

The game kicked off at 11am and began with Potomac controlling possession.  The first half was largely dominated by Potomac State, which out shot Prince George's 9-2 and had nine corner kicks compared to Prince George's one corner.  Some superb goal keeping by PG goalie, Reynero Pacheco, helped to keep the game at a 0-0 tie, with his 5 first half saves.

After Coach Bell's half time talk the team came out more energized.  The second half saw a slight favor to the Owls in time of possession and shots, but neither team was able to capitalize on some key opportunities to score. At the end of regulation the score remained 0-0.

This began overtime, which by NJCAA rule is a 10 minute sudden victory period.  Potomac came out on the attack and had a corner kick opportunity in the first minute of overtime play. The Owls were able to successfully clear the corner and possession switched back and forth the next eight minutes.  At the 9:06 mark in overtime, Potomac state college had a corner kick that got knocked around in the Owls end before Potomac State's Chris Ranker knocked a shot off of the crossbar at the 9:24 mark. The ball was cleared up to the Owls midfield area, where possession was eventually gained by Granit Krasniqi. Granit played the ball forward and left to Owls midfielder, Christian Arevalo, who took a shot from about 30 yards out.  The ball was tipped by Potomac State's goalie and trickled into the goal as the horn blew. The upset took Potomac State to 8-1 record and the Owls to 4-5 record.

The next home soccer game is scheduled against Harford Community College on Friday, October 5 at 6pm. Go Owls!
