Prince George's Women's Basketball's Strong Start Is Thwarted By Second Half By Northern Virginia

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College had a strong start to the game and led going into the locker room, but Northern Virginia Community College had a strong second half to earn an 84-59 victory in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday.

Marche Sisco (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) paced the Owls with 19 points, eight steals, six rebounds and five assists. The freshman notched her sixth double-digit point game and just missed her fifth 20-point game by one point. The eight steals are a career best while she had registered at least five thefts in five-straight games and six times on the season. Sisco leads the team with 20.6 points per game. 

Nehemie Vilain (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) added 15 points for her second-best point total after scoring 20 points in her collegiate debut for her second career 10-point performance of her career. Vilain ranks second on the team with 9.4 points per game.

Imani Andrews (Suitland, Md./Crossland), who had eight points and eight rebounds six days ago against Hagerstown Community College, notched a career-best 10 boards along with four points. Andrews has increased her rebound output in each of her last three games and is averaging 8.3 rebounds per game in this stretch and 7.3 rebounds per game on the year.

With the game tied at 7, Prince George's went on a 13-1 run to a take a 20-8 advantage with four different players scoring in the one minute and 46 second run. Vilain and Aja Hale (Seat Pleasant, Md./Gwynn Park) each contributed four points in the spurt. The Owls went into the second quarter with a 24-16 lead.

The Nighthawks cut the margin to 30-29 only to see Prince George's roll off a 10-0 in the final two minutes and 39 seconds of the half to go into the locker room with a 40-29 advantage. Vilain sparked the run with seven points.

Northern Virginia surged to take a 48-45 lead with 3:32 left in the third quarter. The Largo program had one last answer with a 7-0 run to retake the lead at 52-48. Vilain and Misty Harewood (Oxon Hills, Md./Potomac) each made baskets before Sisco nailed a triple to give the Owls a four-point edge with 2:23 left in the third quarter. 

The Nighthawks scored the final eight points of the quarter and then used a 28-7 fourth stanza to earn the victory.

Hale finished with four points, four rebounds and four steals while Quatazia Johnson (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) matched her season average of 7.0 points per game by chipping in seven points in the loss.

Prince George's returns to action on Dec. 12 against Frederick Community College. Game time is 5 p.m.
