Seifert Named To The NJCAA All-Academic First Team Thanks To 4.0 GPA Throughout Prince George's Two-Year Career

LARGO, Md. – Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern), a two-year starter on the Prince George's Community College women's basketball team, has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic first team for the second-straight year.

Only student-athletes that boast a 4.0 grade-point average are selected to the NJCAA All-Academic first team and Seifert maintained a perfect grade-point average throughout her two years in Largo and will transfer to St. Mary's College of Maryland in the fall after graduating from Prince George's in May.

On the hardwood, Seifert averaged 21.8 points and 15.7 rebounds per game in 16 games this season. The sophomore scored double figures 16 times including 11 games with 20 points and a pair of 30-point performances. Seifert hauled in double digits in rebounds in 14 of the 16 games to finish the season with 14 double-doubles and grabbed at least 15 boards 11 times on the year. Named the NJCAA Division III National Player of the Week twice in 2017-18 she notched a career-high 30 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and again eight days later at Chesapeake College. The sophomore, who was named to the All-NJCAA Region XX Division III first team, hauled in a career-best 23 caroms against Northern Virginia on Jan. 22.

In 41 career games in an Owl uniform, Seifert posted 624 points, 486 rebounds, 97 steals, 60 blocks and 51 assists. She recorded double figures in points 32 times in career including 12 games with at least 20 points and a pair of 30-point outputs. On the boards, she reached double figures 29 times in her career including 14 games with at least 15 rebounds and three tilts with 20 rebounds along with 24 double-doubles.

In addition, Seifert was named Prince George's Academic Student-Athlete of the Year at the Athletic Awards and Inaugural Hall of Fame Dinner in May, the 2016-17 Prince George's Female Outstanding Owl and notched a spot on both the Region XX and MD JUCO All-Academic teams last year.

She comes from a family with strong Prince George's Community College ties. Her mother, Teresa, has been a professor at the college for over 30 years and served as the Owls women's basketball head coach from 1986-93, leading the team to an NJCAA Region XX and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) Tournament title in 1989.

Both of her siblings are also graduates of the college. Her brother Stevie graduated from Prince George's Community College in 2015 and was a member of the Owls 2014 baseball team that won the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament and advanced the NJCAA Division III World Series. He went on to graduate from the University of Maryland. Her older sister Lisa played two seasons on the Prince George's women's basketball team, and was named the Prince George's Athletics Student-Athlete of the Year in 2016 and was selected to the NJCAA All-Academic second team in 2017. A 2017 graduate of Prince George's Community College, Lisa completed her first year at Salisbury University in May.
