Gina Seifert Posts 26 Points And 23 Rebounds In Loss At Northern Virginia

ANNADALE, Va. – Despite 26 points and 23 rebounds by sophomore Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern), Prince George's Community College falls to Northern Virginia Community College 69-57 in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday.

Seifert recorded her second career 20-rebound performance after registering 30 points and 20 rebounds against Chesapeake College on Dec. 14. The sophomore posted four offensive rebounds and 19 defensive rebounds on the night. Seifert shot 10-for-23 from the floor, 0 of 2 from behind the arc and 6 of 11 from the free throw line to finish with 26 points. She has recorded at least 21 points in each of her last six games including four games with at least 25 points. It was her seventh-straight game in double figures in rebounds and the sophomore has hauled in 15 of more rebounds in six of those tilts. It was also Seifert's 13th double-double of the season.

Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate) added 17 points for the Owls (6-9) while Aja Ceesay (Fajara, Gambia/Gambia Methodist) recorded 10 rebounds for the third-straight game with her 11 carom night on Monday. It was Yates' 10th double-figure point game of the season and sixth with at least 17 points.

Northern Virginia got off to a hot start to take a 17-8 lead after the first quarter. Seifert posted four of the eight points in the period. The Largo program held its only lead at 4-2 after a free throw from Ceesay.

Prince George's used a 9-0 run to start the second quarter to tie the game at 17 with 6:21 left in the half. Myanna Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) started the spurt with a basket before Yates converted a traditional 3-point play and Seifert registered back-to-back baskets to even the score.

After the Nighthawks scored the next five points, Seifert registered the next three points to cut the margin to 22-20 with 3:20 on the clock. Northern Virginia then closed the stanza by scoring seven of the final 10 points in the period to go into the locker room with a 29-23 advantage.

Fueled by a 13-4 run, the Nighthawks extended its lead to 42-27 with 3:50 left in the third quarter. The Owls closed the stanza on an 11-2 spurt to cut the margin to 44-38 to start the fourth quarter. Seifert and Yates combined to score all 11 points in the span.

The Largo program then scored seven of the first nine points in the final stanza to trim the margin to 46-45 with 7:57 on the clock. Yates posted four points in the surge. Northern Virginia responded with a 19-3 run to take its largest lead en route to the victory.

Prince George's continues its busy week at Frederick Community College on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
