Seifert's 30 Points Are Gold In Prince George's Women's Basketball's 76-63 Win Against CCBC Catonsville

LARGO, Md. – For the third time this season sophomore Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern) posted a career high in points and registered a double-double in front of the Novak Field House faithful to lead Prince George's Community College to a victory. Seifert registered 30 points and 16 rebounds to power the Owls past CCBC Catonsville 76-63 on Alumni Appreciation Night in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Seifert recorded her first career 30-point performance after connecting on 13 of 24 from the floor and 4 of 4 the free throw line. The sophomore has established a new career high or matched her personal best three times at home this season after scoring a then career-best 25 points against Cumberland County on Nov. 1 and against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15. She also hauled in 16 rebounds in the game to register eighth double-double of the season and the sixth time she has recorded at least 16 caroms in a contest. Seifert is averaging 20.8 points and 13.7 rebounds per game in six contests at Novak Field House this season.

Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate Prep) notched her second double-double of the season for the Owls (5-5, 2-1 MD JUCO) with 16 points and 10 rebounds while adding six assists, five steals and one block. Myanna Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) registered 13 points, seven assists, five blocks and three steals in the winning effort.

Prince George's took the lead early in the first quarter and then pulled away in the second half to earn the victory on Alumni Appreciation Night.

Trailing 6-5, Daja Latten (Washington, D.C./Cardozo Education Campus) scored in the lane to give the Owls the lead for good at 6:57 and start a 13-5 run to end the quarter for an 18-11 margin. Yates led the surge to end the period with seven points.

The Cardinals trimmed the margin to 20-17 with 5:06 left in the second quarter, but Prince George's closed the stanza by scoring 12 of the final 21 points to go into the locker room with a 32-26 advantage.

CCBC Catonsville closed the deficit to three points again in the third quarter only to see the Owls respond with a 10-0 spurt to take a double-digit lead at 44-31 with 5:09 left in the period. Seifert paced the spurt with four points. The Cardinals cut the margin to eight late in the stanza, but Prince George's went into the final quarter with a 55-44 lead.

The final frame was closely contested with the Owls winning the quarter by a 21-19 margin to earn the 76-63 victory.

Latten finished the game with six points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The game was a part of the Prince George's athletics 50th Anniversary celebration and the squad unveiled commemorative gold jerseys with the letters PGCC on the chest for the game.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday to conclude a four-game homestand against CC of Beaver County. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
