Yates-Seifert Tandem Propels Prince George's Women's Basketball To 74-61 Win Against Butler County

BUTLER, Pa. – Imani Yates (Seat Pleasant, Md./Friendship Collegiate) and Gina Seifert (Owings, Md./Northern) combined for 46 points to power Prince George's Community College past Butler County Community College 74-61 in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region XX women's basketball action on Friday night.

After posting a career-high 17 points in the win against Allegany College of Maryland on Wednesday, Yates established a new career high with 24 points against the Pioneers on Friday. The freshman shot 10-for-17 from the floor, 2 of 7 from behind the arc and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Seifert notched her second-straight 20-point performance after scoring 22 points on the night. The sophomore registered her third 20-point game this season and fourth of her career while also notching her fourth double-double of the season after also hauling in 18 rebounds. Seifert is averaging 23.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per game in the two games this week.

Myanna Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo) stuffed the stat sheet for the Owls (4-2) with 13 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists. Rickkia Jackson (Washington, D.C./Ballou), who narrowly missed a double-double in the season opener after finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds, just missed a double-double on Friday after tallying a career-high 11 points along with nine caroms.

Prince George's used a strong first half to jump out to a 51-25 lead going into the locker room thanks to a 28-13 first quarter and a 23-12 second quarter. The Pioneers outscored the Largo program in the second half on an 18-12 third quarter and an 18-11 fourth quarter, but Prince George's earned the 74-61 victory for their second-straight victory.

The Owls complete their Western Pennsylvania swing at Westmoreland County on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 3 p.m.
